Health and Physical Education The focus is on the importance of a healthy lifestyle and physical activity in the lives of individuals and groups within our society. Physical activity, games, sport and outdoor recreation contributes to a sense of community and social connectedness and are vital components of wellbeing.
Health and Physical Education incorporates: Traffic Safety (Prep to Year 6); Peer Mediation; Inter-school Sport; House Sports; Protective Behaviours; The Buddy Program; Health Education; a Camping Program; Swimming; You Can Do It; gymnastics, athletics, dance, minor and major games.
For Physical Education, it is recommended that students wear appropriate school uniform on their PE day such as: Summer: shorts, T-shirt and hat; Winter: shorts, T-shirt, tracksuit pants and windcheater.
Swimming: is an optional part of the Physical Education Program and is conducted at either North Lodge Swimming Centre or the Freeway Sports Centre in Dandenong. Qualified instructors are provided by the pool's swimming coordinator for a cost of approximately $90 for 8 lessons. This includes the cost of bus transport to and from the pool. All students are given the opportunity to participate in this important program. Years 3-6 students usually attend swimming lessons in Term 3 while Years Prep-2 attend in Term 4.
Sport: In Year Prep, 1 and 2, students begin to learn the basic skills needed to participate in team games. In Years 3, 4, 5 and 6, higher order skills needed for major games such as soccer, football, cricket etc are taught. Year 6 students are involved in interschool sports on a weekly basis. Sport skills are taught to students across the school during PE lessons. Students also have opportunities to participate in sporting activities at district, zone, region and state levels as well as House Sports.
