SCHOOL  CURRICULUM

Chalcot Lodge Primary School provides a comprehensive and integrated curriculum covering the Strands, Domains and Dimensions of the Victorian Essential Learning Standards documents.

The Victorian Essential Learning Standards define what is essential and developmentally appropriate for students to know and be able to do at six different levels.  These levels are associated broadly with the years of schooling from Prep to year 10 as shown in the table below.  They set out the major areas of learning to be covered and describe the learning standards to be achieved by students and reported upon to parents.  Every student learns at a different rate, and consequently, some students will be working below the expected level and will require additional support.  Others will be requiring extension and working above the expected level.

  • Level 1 by the end of Year Prep;
  • Level 2 by the end of Year 2;
  • Level 3 by the end of Year 4;
  • Level 4 by the end of Year 6;
  • Level 5 by the end of Year 8;
  • Level 6 by the end of Year 10;

The curriculum is comprised of three intertwined ‘Strands’ including:

Physical, Personal and Social Learning,
which involves: Health & Physical Education;
Interpersonal Development; Personal Learning; and Civics & Citizenship.

Disciplined Based Learning,
which involves: The Arts; English;
Humanities (Economics, Geography and History); and
Languages Other Than English (Indonesian is taught at Chalcot Lodge PS).

Interdisciplinary Learning,
which involves: Communication; Design, Creativity and Technology;
Information and Communications Technology; and Thinking.

At Chalcot Lodge Primary School, teachers work together in Professional Learning Teams to plan an integrated curriculum based on the Victorian Essential Learning Standards.  The following is a brief synopsis of each key learning area.  Parents will be provided with more detailed information about the curriculum during 2009.
