Assessment for Learning

ASSESSMENT AND REPORTING

We assess to teach. All teachers conduct regular assessment to track student learning.  Teachers in the same Professional Learning Teams discuss assessment results and use this assessment information to develop classroom programs to suit student needs. All teachers enter data on our Online GradeXpert program so that student data can be continually monitored and student progress can be easily tracked during their primary school experience at Chalcot Lodge.

Teachers structure opportunities for students to reflect on their learning to encourage them to think about what they have learnt and the way they learn. All students set goals for their future learning.

Teachers formally report to parents twice yearly in a written report.  All students collate student portfolios which contain a range of work samples to be sent home at the end of each term. Grade 5 & 6 students produce digital portfolios.  All parents are invited to participate in a mid year parent teacher interview so that their child's progress can be discussed in more detail. Informal discussions between teachers and parents are also an important part of the reporting process. Parents or teachers may request meetings at any time during the year.

Some students may require additional assistance through a Student Learning Improvement Plan.  This will involve the parents and class teachers of these students meeting regularly to review progress and plan suitable activities for school and home so that the specific learning needs of the child can be addressed.

If parents have any queries about their child's progress during the year or associated issues, we strongly encourage you to make an appointment with the class teacher, Assistant Principal or Principal to discuss the matter.  Please understand that teachers are not able to discuss any concerns or issues with parents during class instruction times, but are happy to make an appointment time before or after school.
